Heywood House in Luton is a day care centre offering health, social care and an educational programmes. It enriches the lives of young adults with profound and complex learning difficulties and additional needs.
In the spring, we were contracted by an East London flooring company working for Heywood House to undertake a floor reduction project. A well used corridor needed its epoxy coating removed, and some of the concrete sub floor taken back. This was so that the flooring contractor could bring the original level of the floor back up using a levelling compound, and then finish it with a 2mm sheet vinyl top -making it level with the surrounding rooms to ensure ease of passage for all using the day centre.
Along the corridor there were four man-holes covers to negotiate. This made the project quite time consuming, so a mixture of floor planing and diamond grinding gave us the result we were after.
Take a look at these 'before' and 'after' shots. The 'after' was after we had finished our work, but before the flooring contractor did his work with the levelling compound and vinyl.
Here at Grit Blasting we love this type of flooring project. Its right up our street, and we have the technical skills, people and equipment to negotiate the small space and the challenges that brings.
